Mary Peters Trust is Northern Ireland’s leading sports charity that supports up-and-coming athletes, including those with disabilities, to achieve their sporting ambitions. Callow Event Management was tasked with organising a first-of-its-kind corporate sports day for teams of corporate employees from across the island of Ireland to include a range of traditional Sports Day activities, as well as more athletic challenges inspired by Mary Peters’ own Olympic experiences. The aim of the event was to connect participants with their colleagues and give companies the opportunity to bond over a shared experience powered by fitness, friendly competition, food and fun, all while contributing to the Mary Peters Trust.
To ensure a successful fundraising event, Callow Event Management marketed the event on social media and reached out to existing supporters, resulting in 12 participating teams from 8 companies across Ireland. The event was sponsored by Hughes Insurance and Spectrum Life, whose brands were promoted across all event collateral.
The event was held at the Mary Peters Track in South Belfast, with traditional athletic challenges such as long jump and shot–put being offered alongside Sports Day-inspired challenges like the egg & spoon race and bean bag and hoops challenge.
To create a fun and enjoyable day, Callow Event Management organised a collective warm-up activity hosted by Michael McKillop, the Irish middle distance runner, a mid-day break for participants to mingle, closing ceremony with live entertainment and BBQ, and a raffle fundraiser to raise essential event revenue.
The event proved to be a resounding success, with 96 participants competing in the challenges. Liberty IT emerged victorious and claimed first place, followed by PWC’s team in second place and Hughes Insurance’s team in third place. The event generated significant interest in next year’s Corporate Games, with Callow Event Management’s expertise and meticulous planning playing a key role in ensuring the event’s triumph.
