The Hillsborough International Oyster Festival 2015 programme ran from Tuesday 1st September to Sunday 6th September and delivered a fun-packed week of events to suit both members of the local community and its many visitors from abroad.

The Oyster Masters Golf Day tee’d off the Festival at Lisburn Golf Club on Tuesday where players enjoyed an amazing show from the skilled Golf Trick Shot Boys and games with the European Golf Challenge.

Then on Wednesday evening, the Festival turned on the music with its debut event, the Oyster Festival Musical Evening where the audience was treated to the musical stylings of the Ulster Youth Orchestra, soloist Zoe Jackson, and the Portadown Male Voice Choir.

The brand new Gourmet Pop-up Restaurant gave guests a real taste of the Festival with a four-course meal prepared by chefs from The Hillside, The Plough Inn, The Parson’s Nose, and Mourne Seafood Bar and entertainment provided by the Faulty Towers Dining Experience.

The Blues Brothers Ball followed suit on Friday evening with a feast prepared by The Plough Inn. Guests at this black tie event were also treated to a performance from the talented Diva Dolls.

The Hillsborough International Oyster Festival hosted an array of exciting events throughout Saturday afternoon. The TrustFord Soapbox Derby got underway with Guy Martin in attendance to judge the entries. Congratulations to the winners from the Edengrove Presbyterian Church team!

Visitors also witnessed the famous World Oyster Eating Championship where reigning champion, Colin Shirlow, went to head-to-head against American competitor Michelle Lesco from Arizona. After a close contest, Colin once again maintained his title as the Oyster King as he beat both his opponent and his own World Record by guzzling down 235 oysters in just three minutes.

As the sun went down on Saturday evening, the BBQ got fired up and local rock band Flash Harry took to the stage for a celebratory concert.

Supercar Sunday provided a grand finale for the Hillsborough International Oyster Festival at the Sprucefield Park and Ride with spectators coming from all over to see the parade of fabulous cars and some even won a ride in the supercars during the charity auction.

The net proceeds of the Hillsborough International Oyster Festival 2015 will go to the Festival’s nominated charities, Clubs for Young People (CYP NI) and the Hillsborough Village Centre.
